Natural Jade
Jade boulders and pebbles are eroded from the Southern Alps and washed downstream by turbulent waters of the rivers and streams, ultimately finding their into the rivers and onto the beaches of the West Coast of New Zealand.
The dense native bush and difficult terrain of these regions can make prospecting for Jade a real challenge. Due to the oxidised grey/brown rind that covers some of the boulders, a prize specimen may be difficult to identify.
Ian Boustridge is not only a master carver but also a master of jade discovery. He has an exceptional eye for finding Jade in its hidden resting places. His Natural Jade touchstones and Jade Rough are chosen for their individual visual and tactile qualities. Each piece is unique and carved to enhance the colours and textures of the stone.
Recently produced natural jade items are displayed on these pages. Please contact Ian with enquiry or request.
For more details on the stone used in each creation please refer to the Jade in Detail section.
